ANNOUNCING: THE SKILLS FOR NEW MILLENNIUM TOUR 2009-2010
Putting the Green in the Red, White, And Blue!

The PermiBus II is Coming to Town!

The world is changing fast – peak oil, climate change, globalization, difficult economic times, banking crisis, government infringement of personal rights…the list goes on.

What new world will emerge as we boldly step into this new millennium? What will you contribute to shaping the future? What skills do you need to create your tomorrow?

The Skills for New Millennium Tour hits the road again in 2009 bringing you skills you need to meet the challenges of the New Millennium. Change can be intimidating. Therefore, the skills we offer; grounded in decades of activism, poverty, and spiritual consciousness; emphasize making small, marginal changes that are critical to survival in difficult economic times, changes that help you live what you believe.

The improved Earth Activist Training (EAT) Permaculture Demonstration Bus (Permibus II) is on the road, visiting communities nationwide, in order to offer you and your community practical skills to help you wrest control of your life from corporate hands. The PermiBus is a 36-foot mobile permaculture demonstration project in progress; complete with solar power, greywater system, herb garden, composting toilet, three dogs, a clutch of chickens, and a box of worms. Our goal? To teach practical skills that make you and your community more environmentally and economically sustainable.

The Skills for the New Millennium Tour offers programs to anyone who wants to host a Skills Event: individuals, community groups, high schools, colleges, intentional communities.... We know that community needs are diverse, so we offer a wide variety of program options that can be mixed and matched to best meet your needs. In addition we can bring the Permibus to your local Co-op, event, or festival. We provide tours of our permaculture systems, perform the permi-puppet show, and teach short informationals to demonstrate the simple ways folks can take fun, easy steps toward more sustainable lives.

SKILLS TOUR PROGRAMS:
We offer a variety of programs in the areas of:
* Homesteading Skills such as a variety of Permaculture classes, canning, and chickens
* Citizenship Skills such as community conflict resolution, consensus, and nonviolent direct action
* Life Skills such as self-defense, rearing wild children, and understanding your companion animals
We can mix and match or combine trainings to your community’s needs. To see a complete list of our offerings visit our website at www.permibus.org

SUPPORT THE SKILLS TOUR

1) ORGANIZE SKILLS TOUR PROGRAMS IN YOUR COMMUNITY: You’ll find a general schedule of our travels below.. Contact us if you are interested in organizing trainings in your community. The Skills Tour programs are designed to range from small classes in the bus or your living room to campus classrooms to large venues with big groups.

2) INVITE THE PERMIBUS II TO AN EVENT IN YOUR COMMUNITY: The Permibus II is a great educational addition to festivals, concerts, coops, farmers markets, and other events. Let us know about events in your region while we are there. Invite us to a festival you are planning, or set us up with your local health food store or farmer’s market.

3) DONATE MONEY: The Skills for a New Millennium Tour does not charge for our programs. We ask for donations from who support our work. Please give as generously as possible to support this important work. Or organize a fundraiser in your community: have a canning party, hold a house concert, tell your friends about our work, pass the hat...we survive on the margin and every little bit helps. The 2009/2010 Skills Tour is starting $5000 in debt due to the need to replace our bus. Donations are needed now more than ever. To donate visit our website at www.permibus.org.

4) HELP OUR NETWORK GROW: Connected up? Help weave the web of sustainability. Introduce us to your friends who might be interested in hosting a program in their community!

5) BE A GUEST TRAINER OR TRAINER IN TRAINING: Know some of your own Skills for a New Millennium? Want to learn how to teach our skills? Travel with the Skills Tour for a short period of time learning, sharing and teaching others!
Winter Magic has given us 3 significant snow storms blanketing our share of the mountain with nearly 40" total so far over the past month.
After each great blizzard, all the paths disappear and the great contours of the land are simple pure flowing lines. Much of the snow is still on the ground in deep drifts. Fortunately the Wonderful gift of Drum's Explorer - monikered "Margot the Magnificent" & wearing her shiny new snow-chains gifted by Stuart visiting from California - we've been able to get on and off the land through mild to treacherous road conditions as the melt-lake flood pools and ice flats are starting to form along our road.

Other things
I recently found / rediscovered an archaic newsletter-list of nearly 900 people (who aren't on the current list!!!) Oh My Gato! I've devised a wonderful solution of sending a general postcard to see if these addresses are even still valid and if people still want to receive our newsletter. I can only imagine what some people must think (I got a phone call the other day wondering if ZMS was still in existence! "Well your website hasn't been updated in a long time & I know what happens to some movements.") I assured him that we were alive and well here, and that things are brewing in the ethers. Great change is flowing forth in the desert.

****Website Update*****
It's simply amazing what you can find when you dig around in storage. The dawn of our new Website is nearing very soon, every known / found issue of the newsletter will be available in an online archive (plus a whole host archive of photos, board meetings, and other musings.) New customizations and features will help show a better picture of the way ZMS is shaping. If you'd like to contribute media to this endeavor, please use our addresses above ^

QRC (Quest of the Radical Crosspollinators tribe) and Jerry Buie (utah queer spirit tribe) will be hosting an awesome workshop at ZMS following Shamans, from Aug 26-28. Below is a description of the workshop.
I think it will be a very transformational experience. Drop me an email if you would like more information.

Here's the call:

Embracing and Experiencing our Queer Spirits: Are you prepared to have a extraordinarily stunning life?

The Queer Spirit Workshop @ ZMS encounters our lives as living Queer Spirits. Together we will strive for a new paradigm of profound living as Queer people as envisioned and defined by Queer people rather than monolithic heterosexist culture. Through the embrace of our Queer Spirituality we will create a container, a place of permission, to freely follow the heart to a place that liberates opportunity on a deep soul level. In this container we will create a process, a journey, in which we Queer Spirits inhabiting human form will gather in circle, in ceremony, in ritual, in our sexuality, our sensuality, our psychology and our deep, and at times, unknown essence.

The vision includes tapping into the magic and the ancestral knowledge of who we are as individuals of a Queer nature. This Queer Spirit quest has an ambition to create an intimate space in which individual truth; vision and stories are explored, expanded, embraced and then witnessed and brought forth. By embracing our inherent power we can work to break through the hurdles that challenge us in relationships, sustainability, intellectual pursuits, spiritual growth, and prosperity. Through this work we will enhance and enliven our dance with all of humanity as our planet encounters profound change and evolution.

The workshop does not have a charge but is instead "whatever donation you decide and/or no one turned away for lack of funds."

The 8th annual Queer Shamanism Gathering will be held between August 15th-24th, 2008 @ Zuni Mountain Sanctuary in northwestern New Mexico.

The Stewards of the sanctuary are putting out a call for energy assistance in this endeavor.

This years proposed and requested possibilities include -- Storytelling, Heart Sharing; Sweat Lodge; Positive Tea; Playback Theater; Acoustical Music Circle, Divination Studies, Desert Walkabouts / Visionquesting ; Massage, Energy Balancing, Claycrafting; Desert astronomy; entheogen discussion; body/energy playgroup; BDSM workshop, desert spirit rain dance; Morning/Evening Yoga; Incense Making; Herb Wildcrafting; Poetry ReadingRants, permaculture and various happening and on-going infrastructure projects.

A Know-Your-Talent Show Multi-Media Arts Exhibit is planned for the Wednesdays (in the middle of the happening) as a benefit for the sanctuary and the neighboring community. Help make this your gathering by letting us know where your interests are and how you would like to plug your energy into the mix.

Plenty of tenting areas are being prepared by faeries for camping on Camp Hill as well as more secluded permaculturely friendly areas on the land. The RV parking is also available for persuns wishing to camp nearer the road. Food and water will be provided by the sanctuary with vegetarian meals prepared and served by volunteer attendees. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions, allergies or other health concerns or with special needs we should know about.

*** To help cover the costs for this years event a suggested donation of 35/day per persun per day is requested - more if you can less if you cant; no one turned away for lack of funds. This year as in the past there will be also be study/actualization spaces for those seeking independent explorations.

Full or partial pre-registration funds would be most helpful. Checks can be paid to the order of Zuni Mountain Sanctuary and sent to us by snail mail care of ZMS attn: ShamGath 2008 PO Box 636 Ramah, NM 87321 Even if you are unable to prepay please notify the sanctuary to let us know if you are planning to attend.

--- IN YOUR REGISTRATION REPLY PLEASE INCLUDE --- How you want to be referenced - name and the best way to contact you; your estimated time of arrival in New Mexico -- also if you are driving to the sanctuary and need driving instructions or a map. Pick-ups from the bus/train/airport in Gallup or Albuquerque can be arranged, compensation for gas requested. Carpooling is also helpful so let someone know if you have extra room for sharing space with other travelers.

It is also proven helpful for visitors to have a persunal intention declared for themselves lending definition and structure to their time in space in the sanctuary during the gathering. Intentions can be general or specific but should allow for open-ended possibilities. Past experiences on the land indicate that in offering such a devotional pledge - such an act lends definition and measure to your experience and the ways in which we may better serve one another.

If hospitality is your scene you can contact the sanctuary to let us know your specialties. We always need crews for Cafeteria Committee, Kitchen Queens, HydroGrrls , Dish Dudes and Wood Tenderers. If you have any other skills or talents you would like to share let us know in advance so as to better accommodate your context for space and/or materials in which to honor your gifts.

*** Please notify ZMS either by email zunimtn@wildblue.net or by phone 505.783.4002 to let us know you if intend to attend - to arrange transportation or with any questions.

Fine arts by fairies at a local gallery, a talent show at ZMS and talks of art and talent shows in other cities, and a few fairies contemplating starting a food co-op in Ramah. Parties, outings, gallery show openings and other social activities too. Well, this kind of potpouri of life continued for a month and a half for me till doubts and questions of peoples sincerity and their motives began to emerge in my mind.

Was everyone truely participating and working in their own way, whether that be physical work that could be seen or some other kind of work that could not be visibly seen. Were some people doing most of the hard dirty work and some people doing the cushy and fun work? Of course such questions ultimately were subjective and what was fun for one individual might be dirty and hard for another individual. And for the people I doubted were these the projections of my own imagination and ego or these judgements of others based on truth? Well, in the end, whether it was based in reality or my imagination didn't matter. My expectations, my disappointments, and consequently, my "anger" was the result. Anger came from my personal judgements. It took me out of the "moment" and into the past or future. It also had me living my life in my head as I conversed with myself with my thoughts. Thankfully, anger didn't hold me in it's grip for long. A beautiful natural healing was occurring in me. It seemed to last 3 days and each cycle would complete itself every 24 hours. First I would experience anger toward some individual or individuals, then a loving feeling of appreciation of the individual(s) in small to sometimes profound ways, and just finding the same individual(s) who I had been angry with now turning loveable.

With geniune appreciation of each fairy it became possible to forgive any perceived or misperceived (on my part) short-comings of any individual(s). I soon began to notice some discribeable virtues each fairy had as well as their indiscribeable virtues they had. Some of those qualities I felt or intuitively knew. Some I witnessed with my eyes as their emotions were expressed through their bodies or lovely voices. To live with each human's inspirations and virtues I could live forever with in such company. To live with the shadow side of my fellow humans for any length of time would have to be questionable at least for some individual(s). Perhaps I could geniunely dismiss it; perhaps the cycle I experienced recently in healing such situations and the process would repeat itself and perhaps I couldn't live with it at all. I don't know. My experience is sometimes some people are changeable in their relationship with each other and sometimes not. A positive change I had with one fairy occurred in an encounter I had at another sanctuary a year and a half ago. It was at a heart circle in which anger, even though it lasted a few moments, for each of us would set in stone what our relationship would be. Funny, a few days later I was having a loving feeling towards him and on an intuitively level I didn't feel the anamosity I felt from him before. That original heart circles healing quality seems to have transcended space and time. A shared experience of both of us sometime later changed our opinion in big ways of each other.

When the same fairy appeared at ZMS recently he expressed to me his appreciation of me and I expressed my appreciation of him. Two people growing, maturing, evolving. And I see our community at ZMS growing, maturing and evolving.

-- Lamas Artists Spiritual Gathering in NorthWestern New Mexico ---

Saturday, July 28th and Friday August 3rd

@ Zuni Mountain Sanctuary and other workshop locations in Candy Kitchen, NM.

We gather, to learn and to teach, opening our hearts and our minds to the gifts of spirit. Using this creative spark to kindle within us all the flames of inspiration. This gathering is open for all who seek to combine their ART and their SPIRITUALITY, whatever that may be -This gathering is for you. Be prepared to be divinely inspired as you enter the Lamas Full Moon Artists Spiritual Gathering, An intentional gathering for those who desire to move their ART forward in a meaningful and spiritual manner.

Dates and Registration:

The Lamas Full Moon Artists Spiritual Gathering will take place between Saturday, July 28th and Friday August 3rd. The suggested donation is 35 dollars per person per day (more if you can, less if you can't, and no one turned away for lack of funds). This includes your food, propane, and the costs of hosting the gathering and maintaining the land. If money isn't in your particular bag of tricks this particular year, there are many other ways you can contribute to the sanctuary.

Please contact someone at ZMS to let us know the dates you plan on being here and how many will be arriving in your party. Registering early helps up get an idea on who's attending, and also gives us a head start on the summoning the foodstuffs, toilet paper, nail polish, and glitter.

Logistics:

You are invited to arrive on Friday, July 27th to set up your tent and get settled in. The Gathering will begin the next day with an Opening Circle/Ritual. Each day will include a morning circle after breakfast and plenty of time for workshops and smaller circles. There will also be heart circles, ritual planning circles, and many other ways to plug in to community life.

Come prepared to camp, and come prepared for both rain and sun. It's the beginning of the monsoon season here in the high desert, and that means the possibility for wetness at least once or twice during the week is pretty good. Special-needs space is for faeries who require a dry indoor sleeping place, and is very limited, so call ahead to let us know of your special needs.

What to Bring: a tent, tarps for your tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, warm clothes for chilly nights, something to wear if it rains, sunscreen, books and pictures of faerie lore, a workshop, a vision to share of what you want this community to be/look like/feel like, fabulous outfits, drag to share, drums and musical instruments, paint, art supplies, canvas, clay, a sense of humor, your medicine, tarot cards and other divinatory tools of magick, high heels in your size, extra pumps, towels, biodegradable shampoo, a toothbrush and toothpaste (again biodegradable), your razor if you want to shave (it's not safe to share), floggers, cuffs, leather, furs, lace and poetry, a clearly divined intention, and your best fabulous faerie friend.

Further information about the Sanctuary can be found on the internet at www.zms.org

We are proud to be open to all gender and sexual identities.

We are proud to be closed to all negativity.

Let us move beyond these mindsets and step into the light with our ART and SPIRITUALITY.

This is a safe place for all faeries, so it is up to all faeries to maintain that positive flow within and amongst ourselves. Please be conscientious of the land and one another, to help contribute to a gathering that is intent and focused and healing and, above all else, rockin'. Magick of intent demands an environment of intent, in order to thrive. This journey to a powerful place can awaken your heart and help you discover yourself.

It's Y(Our) Gathering

From cooking and cleaning to circles and rituals, it's our communal energy and labor that makes a gathering happen. If there is a circle, workshop, or event (such as the "Full Moon Ritual" or "How to center your chakras with music") you would like to facilitate or a skill you have to share, or if you feel called to contribute to the opening and closing ritual/circles, please let us know.

Kitchen Queens!!!

The Kitchen really is the heart of the gathering, and we need kitchen-wise faeries to step into their power as High n' Holy Kitchen Witches. Strut your stuff in the Main House. We need food wise faeries to plan and present meals each day during the gathering. Gather together some of your faerie friends to help, and treat your community to a show of your kitchen mastery. We're ordering the food in early July, so join us now. Send your commitment for one of the days, July 27th -Aug 3rd.

The only way I know this is that Short Mountain Sanctuary has received a notice that his will is in probate, and he left them some money. Cassandra loved visiting Zuni, and read his amazing poetry at Know Talent Shows. His acerbic sense of humor will be greatly missed.

He was a wonderful potter, and lived in North Asheville as a hermit. He partcipated in public bridge tournaments, and that gave him pleasure. I don't know if he had close friends or family. A few of us in Asheville who knew him are having a memorial on March 7th at 5PM. Let me know if you want to attend.

I've been digging through files, and have found some haiku written by Cassandra from a gathering at Short Mountain, probably in 1998. I don't remember the occasion, but it was clearly something to do with a circus, and he must have written these really fast - I have 4 pages worth (about 30 haiku). Here are some samples:
Lampshade hats and balloon pants?
Air conditioning.
The Gathering is getting closer by the day....YEAH!!!! The stewards and residents of ZMS and the Candy Kitchenettes have been preparing the Sanctuary for your arrival. As of yesterday, I took on some of the responsibility as one of the flowmasters of the kitchen during the gathering.
SO....
Who would like to take on a meal during the gathering. We are looking for creatures that will take on a breakfast, lunch, dinner, breads, desserts, or snacks. If this sounds like something that interests you please get ahold of me with your menu plan. If there are any foods or specialty items that you are wishing to see please let me know. The first bulk order needs to be in by the 27th of July.

Also, If anyone is planning on donating food to the Gathering let me know and I will make a note of it so we don't double order.

Almost forgot....just one more kitchen item... The ZMS kitchen is in dire need of some new large resturaunt style pots, pans, and utensils. It has been at least 4 years since these have been replaced. Some of the large pots are so thin that when cooking large amounts of food the bottom burns very quickly. If you have any just sitting around, can find them with ease, or would like to donate some green energy towards getting some new ones, the Kitchen would appreciate the Love.

First, hey!!! How’s everyone at ZMS and K. Kitchen?? I am so thrilled at the direction things have been going in the last few months. When I visited the community in July (after my 9 year adventure in Central America!), and I proposed to the group a “refocusing” around the concept of a “Healing Community”, I never expected that this concept would be received so warmly. But I hoped it would, as I think ZMS has wanted to be this since the very beginning. There have always been healers and healing energy at ZMS, but so much of the time the energy got overpowered by conflict and lack of focus.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to keep tabs on how things have been going since July, and have been calling Owl for updates, and staying in touch with Joel thru email. But It’s been a little difficult keeping up with all the new energy and changes. I know everyone is super busy, and I don’t wanna be wasting people’s time. So I’m hoping that now that this momentum is building at the community, that more communication flows to the supporters outside, so that we can keep tabs and contribute input to the discussion. To this end, it would be wonderful to see a regular web newsletter update!

Back in Sept. I offered (on a Tribe forum) to contribute an article for the spring RFD about the concept of “Healing Community”, which no one got back to me on. I’m a big boy and can accept rejection... but as policy, I think it’s important to at least acknowledge the intentions to contribute and help that are coming from outside the community. I know, now that things are moving in such a positive direction, that other faeries will want to contribute in one way or another, and I hope this energy is acknowledged and embraced.

One suggestion that I personally think is critical, is to keep an active committee working on amending the Articles of Community to reflect the new focus of ZMS. I know this is a difficult task (having spent much time working on the original articles), but if and when conflicts arise as to direction and process, this document will be critical to resolving these issues. I know you girls are now having monthly board meetings, and I think the AOC are an ongoing agenda item. It’d be great if there was a mechanism for outside people to contribute to this discussion.

I also have an idea for another yearly gathering at ZMS that could be a wonderful “spin-off” of the Shaman’s Gathering. I’d love to get feedback on this idea, so I’ll write about it in another post in a few days.

I love you girls and miss the land tremendously Despite being away for so long, ZMS will always be a big part of who I am. Love and healing to all...

---Littlefoot

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
p.s. Valentine’s Day trivia: did you know that for eight hundred years prior to the establishment of Valentine's Day, the Romans had practiced a pagan celebration in mid-February commemorating young men's rite of passage to the god Lupercus. The celebration featured a lottery in which young men would draw the names of teenage girls from a box. The girl assigned to each young man in that manner would be his sexual companion during the remaining year. ... (Hmmm, maybe we should take back this holiday and do it our way!)

It sounds like things are really looking up at the community.

I'm not sure if this forum at Tribe is widely read by the Faerie community, but I think it would be great if more information about these weekends gets out. Maybe someone at the community could write something up about these weekends and post it to the various Tribe forums and all other sundry Faerie lists. I think there would probably be a lot of folks interested.

Ere our sun father goes in to sit down at his sacred place
Then our father[95]
Their perfect cloud house he will prepare,
Their rainbow bow he will lay down,
Their lightning arrow he will lay down,
And there will sit down quietly.
165 Far off from all directions
Our fathers will make their roads come forth.
Making their roads come hither
They will sit down quietly.
170 Sitting behind them
This many days,
Anxiously waiting
We shall pass our days.
175 When we reach their appointed time,[36]
Yonder from all directions
The ones who are our fathers,
Life-giving priests,
Life-giving p?ekwins,
180 Life-giving bow priests,
All the Beast Priests,
The divine ones,
With no exceptions,
All will make their roads come hither.
185 Near-by, into the rain-filled rooms
Of their daylight fathers,
Their daylight children,
They will bring their roads.
At the place where they sit down quietly,
190 Our child will pass his fathers on their road.
They will transform him.

Hello Everyone,

At the ZMS Annual Board meeting it was decided that the board will be meeting monthly this year to review and rewrite the Articles of Community (the bylaws). I am attaching the minutes of the October ZMS Board meeting. It includes the first set of proposed changes. The way we decided to work this was to propose changes one month, hear what the greater community thought of these changes, and then approve or alter them the next meeting. So everyone PLEASE let us hear your feedback. We would especially like to hear your ideas as to what the vision of ZMS should be. If you know of anyone interested in the future of ZMS make sure they know of these changes. Have them join in the tribe. Let us all work together to ensure a prosperous future for ZMS. Thank you.
Blessings to All,
Ordination of Stewards. It is expected that stewards have been engaged from early childhood of a recognized spiritual quest, consisting of important experiences and discoveries.

Milestones shared by stewards:

1.Dissatisfaction with the religious or irreligious practiced or professed by our families.

2.An innate and continuous searching for the meanings, origins, roots and fundamentals of human experience.

3.Discovery of the parallel wisdom, experience and mythology of different peoples.

4.Strong attraction to non-rational, irrational or metaphysical phenomena.

5.Continuous interest in non-western healing methods. We expect the individual to be aquatinted with two or more of: folk healing, herbalism, acupuncture, accupressure, massage, shamanism or yoga.

6.Eschewal of the inappropriate social expectations placed upon him/her; non-conformity with expected economic, class, gender or family roles.

7.Concern with ecological balance.

8.Conviction that the present instability of the world is the occasion for making the next evolutionary leap in consciousness. We expect this conviction motivates the individual to link with others in order to complete the next stage of human evolution.
