On Sunday my car was broken into at Pride. I lost everything. My ipod, camera, new rollybag, my notebook, calendar, clothes, jewelry and...
my UNMATA necklace.
Everything else I can replace over time. But my UNMATA Necklace!!!!!!!
It was taken in San Francisco.
Here's what I'm thinking...This is a powerful piece of jewelry and it may show itself so I can find it. I figure I have a few hundred people on my side in the city that know the necklace or the symbol.
Please keep your eyes open and if you see one, it's mine. Offer to buy the necklace from whoever for whatever it costs and I will reimburse.
Please, I know she is trying to show up somewhere for me.
I'm heartbroken

Saturday and Sunday, June 28th-29th at Brooklyn's fantastic Triskelion Arts studios in Williamsburg.

~ We will also have a fabulous evening show with special Live musical guests and, naturally, Dance Performances!

Performance will be held at Union Pool, Williamsburg Brooklyn Saturday June 28th stay tuned for more details!! You will be able to purchase workshops via PayPal soooon:)

WORKSHOPS:
Unleashing the Inner Spaz!!!! Intensive #1, SATURDAY 11am-2pm. Triskelion Arts Studio A
Fancy kicks, tight spins and those elusive concepts to take pops and locks to the next level by mixing the liquid smoothness of a snake with hits and stops that look almost inhuman. This workshop will focus on ways to perform with passionate expression while maintaining control and grace. These concepts will be fully broken down using short combinations as examples so the student is able to get a real understanding of the mechanisms behind them.

Get your Kicks and Spins! Intensive #2, SUNDAY 11am- 2pm. Triskelion Arts Studio A
We will incorporate other elements into spins and kicks, drawing a wee bit from tango, Ballet and Classical indian Kathak, exploring things like leg extension and stomping. Lots of focus on quick spins as well, basic exercises for turning techniques, and how to train yourself to stop on a dime, which always looks impressive. Spotting basics, as well as non spotted turns, will be covered, and techniques for using legs and arms to initiate a turn. Let’s make those legs and footsies pretty, shall we?

Zoe’s Bio
Zoe is a proud member of the indigo which recently was on the road touring their show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD.
**Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to create Tribal Derivations last spring, Zoe discovered she enjoyed creating music, and plans to make more.
** When not with the Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show, a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimension, and has been seen tearing it up with the Extra Action Marching Band.
**An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance.
Zoe was recently nominated for Zaghareets best interpretive artist 2007. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their existence.**
Full details are coming shortly...email me here for questions in the interim!
Ever feel as though your learning curve has reached a plateau? This workshop is a rousing motivational tool to enhance one’s personal practice. Mira will begin with a thorough breakdown of basic isolations and will gradually increase into multiple layering designed to bewilder the brain and electrify the body.
Sunday, July 6th- Liz Strong Workshop
TURKISH ROMAN FUSION:
The more you know, the more confidently you will express your unique voice. Expand your dance vocabulary, and explore the energizing 9/8 rhythm! Learn the dance in its true
form, and then fuse it to other dance elements. Turkish Rom dance is richly expressive and playful, passionate and fun. Students will dance the pure formto traditional music in 9/8 time signature. Then we will use non-traditional music to create a scintillating, original fusion choreography, drawing on the technique and knowledge of the folkloric form.
Fancy kicks, tight spins and those elusive concepts to take pops and locks to the next level by mixing the liquid smoothness of a snake with hits and stops that look almost inhuman. This workshop will focus on ways to perform with passionate expression while maintaining control and grace.

Here's some info on the girls and some video reference if you need:

Zoe Jakes- Zoe is a proud member of the indigo which recently was on the road touring their
show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since
the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD.
Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to create Tribal
Derivations last spring, Zoe discovered she enjoyed creating music, and a new cd will be out may of 2008. When not with the Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show,
a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimension, and has been seen tearing it up
with the Extra Action Marching Band.
An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal
bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and
Indian classical dance. Zoe was recently nominated for Zaghareets best
interpretive artist 2007. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their
existence.

Liz Strong- Elizabeth Strong grew up in a tradition of dance and music. As a young girl she was inspired by the music and dancing of the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Her amazingly emotional and personal style has captivated audiences in the Bay Area and abroad. Elizabeth believes that the heart is the source of dance and that dance is an expression of our relationship with life and culture. A life-long dancer, Elizabeth formally began studying and performing Middle Eastern dance in 1996 at the age of 18.

Shakti Dance Movement and Origins Dance Collective Proudly Present….
The Return of Zoe Jakes!!
Saturday, April 5th & Sunday, April6th, 2008.
University of Hawaii Manoa Dance Studios
Tribal Belly Dance Weekend Intensive Extravaganza!!
$50.00 per workshop pre-registration rate, $55.00 at the door, four workshops total!!!
Zoe Jakes is a proud member of the Indigo dance company, which recently toured for their newest show, Le Serpent Rouge. Zoe has been touring with BellyDance Superstars since the fall of 2005, and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD. Last Spring, in collaboration with David Satori and Tommy Cappel under the name “Beats Antique”, Zoe co-created her first CD titled “Tribal Derivations”. In the process Zoe discovered she enjoyed creating music, and plans to make more. When not with the Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show, a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimension, and has also been seen tearing it up with the Extra Action Marching Band.
An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal belly dance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, Tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance. Zoe was recently nominated for Zaghareet Magazine’s best interpretive artist for 2007.
Saturday, April 5th Workshops: UH Manoa Dance Studio #3
Fast and Furious Drills: 5:30-7:30pm
This Workshop will use specific Pilates and yoga based exercises to strengthen the core muscles necessary for backbends, belly rolls, and tight hip work. Hip, head, shoulder, and chest isolations will be drilled, and we’ll be working on smoothing transitions from move to move. We will go over lots of pop-lock technique, as well as fluidity of movement, stressing on posture and upper body awareness. This class is for all levels.
Get Your Kicks and Spins! 8:00-10:00pm
In this class we will incorporate other elements into spins and kicks, drawing a wee bit from Tango, Ballet and Classical Indian Kathak, exploring things like leg extension and stomping. There’ll be lots of focus on quick spins as well as basic turning techniques, and how to train yourself to stop on a dime, which always looks impressive. Spotting basics, as well as non spotted turns will be covered, along with techniques for using legs and arms to initiate a turn. Let’s make those legs and footsies pretty, shall we?
Sunday, April 6th Workshops: UH Manoa Dance Studio #2 Choreography: 9:00-11:00am
The dance will have elements of Fast and slow through out, and will incorporate moves from the previous workshops. It is recommended that beginners take at least one other class, as there will be some review.
Unleashing the Inner Spaz!!!! 11:30-1:30pm
We're going to focus on some elusive concepts to take pops and locks to the next level, by mixing the smooth fluidity of a snake, with hits and stops that look almost inhuman! This workshop will focus on ways to perform with passionate expression while maintaining control and grace. These concepts will be fully broken down.

I have a question, and I realized, there is a whole slew of educated dancers that might have some answers. My purpose in this is twofold, one to get some answers, and also, this experience is making me want to reanalyze the repetetive movement base that us dancers use. I am curious about what kind of developing discomfort you guys are dealing with, if any.

My hips are tight, you know that spot under the buttcheek that you really feel during glute squeezies. I am trying to figure it out, and maybe you guys have some ideas. I doesn't feel chronic, just tight from sitting on the bus all day and then getting up and dancing. warm ups? stretches?

Check out the website:

www.kosmoscamp.com

The warm summer days at Kosmos Camp are filled with music and dance workshops. Dancers learn and perform on finished dance floors. Musicians enjoy instruction and practice opportunities in our open-air venues. Both dancers and musicians study with world-renowned professional teachers in a wide variety of styles from different cultures. And all campers enjoy the natural charm of Camp Cazadero, located just an hour outside Santa Rosa in the rolling hills north of the Russian River. Aquatic types will enjoy lounging by the pool and hiking to the nearby waterfall. All meals are provided by our professional chef, the popular Siam Moeini, and feature a gourmet menu with an eclectic array of world cuisines and a full bar serving reasonably priced mixed drinks, beer, and wine after dinner. Evenings feature concerts and dance performances by students and staff in the open-air amphitheatre, and open-floor dancing with late-night jamming afterwards.

Ultimately, Kosmos is both a school of music and dance, as well as an unforgettable celebration among friends. It is a special getaway where people bond their passions and talents. We hope you join us and help create a unique community that we all can cherish in the years to come.

So a few people have asked for advice, these are just a few things I could pull form my noggin. I hope they help.

Get a Jillina dvd if you can and learn some of her dances to get familiar with her style, they will have you do a cabaret dance (and give you about 5 minutes to learn it) and they will watch to see how fast you catch on. DO: figure out how you can do the most relaxed and self confident performance, whatever that is for you. Just be confident in what you have to offer, and try not to get too stressed out by the environment. DON'T: worry about the other auditioners, just focus on being yourself, and staying in the mindspace to convey your personality in all parts of the audition. Make sure to introduce yourself in a clear a relaxed voice, and think of what you would like to say about yourself if you are asked.

be a couple minutes early, don't even think of being late!

oh, and take lots of time to get ready, spend the time to look your best, appearance is important (it's the first thing they will judge you on, it shows how professional you are, and how much time you have dedicated to all parts of the dance form), and beside, it will make you feel more self confident....

prepare a solo in case you asked back to perform it.

good luck!
