Those of us who became Sannyasins got a new name, for me it was a great gift. Here is my name and the message I got with it. I'm still proud of it.

Beloved Prayoga,

you new name will be

Swami Anand Prayoga
* bliss experiment *

Becoming a sannyasin meens
You will be moving
On the path of bliss
Not on the path of seriousness
Be cheerfull
Create a singing haert
A dancing body
And a cellebrating soul
And that will be
How you will fullfill
Your being as a sannyasin

Hey: I'm Swami Gyan Anup. Gyan means 'knowledge' or 'wisdom' (depends on whom one is speaking with) and Anup means 'rare'

I was gifted the name in 1994, and while I never got to experience Osho in the flesh, I kind of figure it was more about the 'empty chair' than anything else.

I've never been one much to follow, and Osho was the first person who I encountered that kept repeating "I'm the finger pointing to the moon; look at the moon not at the finger." Of course, my experience was that most people were so into looking at the finger that they never saw what it was pointing to.

I received this name 5 years ago, it has grown on me as I have grown. My inner Light is my greatest fear but also my source of Love.
Speaking from the now: I can not imagine receiving any other name than Atmo Deepak

I did a Love Spirit weekend with Veeresh in the UK recently and there was Darshan one evening when we were all invited to ask a question. I asked my question and as part of the answer Veeresh gave me a gift - my sannyas name. It is Deva Priya, meaning Divine Beloved. I had such a WOW moment! Actually I'm still having it. I feel so honoured.

I love the message that Osho gave you with your sannyas name - thank you for sharing it with us Prayoga :)

Namaste Prayoga. I am also a Sannyasin and my Sannyas name is Swami Deva Vadya. The meaning of this is *Musical Instrument of the Gods* *Devine Musical instrument*. When I recieved this Sannyas name from Osho, I was very involved composing music for a new age band in which I was involved as a guitar player. It was a beautiful musical proyect which i enjoyed very much being a part of. Much of the music was composed and arranged for the purpose of meditation and connecting with our mother the Earth. It was a very fruitful time as a musician. Very beautiful music coming out from the hearth. It was a beautiful gift from Osho to give me this name. The thing is that when I applied for Sannyas, and I sent the paper work to Poona, I did not mention that i was a musician and much less a musician involved in creating music with a spiritual enfasis. Beloved Osho looked into my hearth and told me that I was a Devine Musical Instrument. He knows. Thank you very much Prayoga for letting me share this. Hugs and smiles. Namaste........Deva Vadya

After waiting for 4 years, I finally surrendered oneday and took sannyas. My sannyas name is Prem Sharabo. Later I found osho speaking about this name:
"Prem means love, sharabo means wine -- wine of love. Love is a wine, it intoxicates; and nothing intoxicates like love. All other intoxicants are poor substitutes for it, and harmful too. Love not only intoxicates you, it also transforms you. It not only intoxicates You? it makes you more alert. That is the miracle of love. It is paradoxical: on one hand one becomes drunk; on the other hand, one becomes utterly conscious. It brings this paradox together.
One becomes unconscious of one's self: one becomes conscious of the supreme Self. One becomes unconscious as an ego: one becomes conscious as a universal consciousness. One loses boundaries, one starts melting; definitions disappear. One is simply there, unlimited, unbounded, infinite: neither limited by time nor limited by space.
Love gives you the first glimpses of eternity, of deathlessness, of timelessness. And once love has stirred the heart, one lives a totally different quality of life. One lives without anguish, one lives without fear. One lives dangerously and one lives creatively." .....and he goes on and on and on and on.....
These days I constantly remind myself of this name, of sannyas,of that intoxication. Mind finds (or creates) a billion ways of suffering in this day-to-day life, and the awareness of a sannyas life, reminds me of the path to be walked, of the love that is to be found all around me....Prayoga, Namaste.

    Namaste, Prayogaji :-)

I was initiated into sannyas in 2000 by the "Acadamy of Initiation" and got the name Swami Prem Tejas. My sannyas "certificate" said "Prem: Love, Tejas:Fire". I never liked the sound of the name though the meaning was nice.

Even as Osho always have been the love of my life I have studied tantra and meditation with different groups. (Funny that they all seems to want to give me a new name. I have had so many names now: Arup, Shivadas, and some vietnameese name I can't even remember :-)

In 2007 I was initiated into the European Nath Sampradaya and got the name "Visarganath", which means "Lord of Divine Emanation" or "Emission". I liked it so I have stayed with it :-)

Love from Visarganath (or choose any name you like from the list above)

    My name is Dhyan Murti
    meaning Picture of Meditation

I received it when I was very young from Shyam Singha,
and later in life received it again from Veeresh.

My name means much too much to me to write here.
But if anyone would like to get to know me, and share; and exchange stories of ourselves, our names, and the great ones in our lives: I am more than willing.

My name is Swami Gyan Visarjana...
    Gyan means Wisdom
    Visarjana means Let Go

This is the normal situation in the world: everybody is conditioned. And everybody has to
come out of the conditioning. It is difficult. It is not like undressing -- it is like peeling your
skin. It is hard, it is arduous, because we have become identified with our conditioning.
We know ourselves only as Catholics, communists, Hindus, Mohammedans, Christians. And
the greatest fear of dropping the conditioning is the fear that you may fall into an identity
crisis. Hence sannyas. Sannyas is just a device to help you so that you don't start feeling
that you are falling into an abyss, a bottomless abyss. I take away your conditionings --
you will feel very empty -- I have to give you something to play with for the time being.
Sannyas is that toy to play with for the time being. But sannyas is given to you in such a
way that it never becomes a conditioning; it remains fun, it remains sport -- involved yet
you remain a witness to it

Visarjana, what a nice name and message. It really is all about letting go...

My Sannyas name is Ma Prem Pathika. I took Sannyas in 1978, through the mail before I actually went to see Osho in India. I was sure I wanted to go further with his teachings, and so I took Sannyas even though I was almost on my way to Pune (then called Puna) at the time.

I was given the name Prem Pathika, which he said translated was Pilgrim of Love. It felt so appropriate at the time, because when I received the name upon arrival at home I had just been on a 3 week tour with The Grateful Dead on the east coast. A kind of pilgrimage for me, and one of love.

Really, my whole life is a pilgrimage of love, though. And love in a higher sense of the word than romantic relationships. A love of life, of Godliness, of civilization (and the not so civilized!) and our shared existence together.

I've loved my name over the years. When I went to Pune, India I stayed for 2 and 1/2 years. Upon returning in 1981 I soon stopped wearing red and hanging with other Sannyasins, but I continued to use the name Pathika for a few years.

A couple years ago I went back to India. I visited the ashram in Pune, too. My boyfriend and I stayed with some good friends of his in Bangalore afterwards and I was told by them that Prem Pathika is more accurately translated as On The Path of Love. That works for me, too.

Hi my sannyas name is Ma Samagro. It means Total. Part of the message was "...that's the whole secret of sannyas, to change every mundane activity into the sacred and the way is to be total...slowly your life goes through a rebirthing process..." 21/4/1981.
Really special to me. All you really need is the name He gave you to transform your life.
