Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Past away tuesday. See my blog for pic.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was Guru of the Transcedental Meditation and lived in Vlodrop, the Netherlands. "All the rivers of the world gather in Vlodrop," he once said. The Flow and the Drop.

Namaste Maharishi.

Maybe chat a bit about him here?

I have never seen him in life allthough he lived nearby. As you know I was in the other camp, Osho's camp. Osho always made fun of him, but I think they where the same level. Maharishi has his special audience, highly intelectual people and they do very well... and Maharishi didn't get the mess Osho got with his followers... They where ONE ... I think they are on a beerbooze right now!!!

I was looking for some nice quotes these days of Maharishi but didn't find any. What he sais is right the same as Osho did, but Osho's words taste better for me. His teaching and website are a bit boring and highly intelectual as Osho was more fun and down to earth. Now comparing is not necesary (but I did) they taught the same: MEDITATE you dog!
And Maharishi seemt to giggle lovely with every question, I'm sorry I never seen him.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Quotes
"Having the Kingdom of Heaven within you, you have no right to suffer in life, you only have to enjoy the grace of God.”

"Bliss becomes blissful with practice. In our own bliss the desire, desirer and process of desiring are united—they are one. Desire is fulfilled at its source.” Maharishi, July 2005

"When a man has risen to cosmic consciousness, then his state is like that of an ever-full and steady ocean. This state of absolute bliss is the goal of all desires in life.”
Maharishi, from ‘Thirty Years Around the World.’

"Adopt the standard of perfection, because it is a perfect universe. ” – Maharishi, 1989.

"The experience of happiness is a direct means of replenishing life energy and revitalizing the mind.”
– Maharishi, The Science of Being and Art of Living, 1963.

"Identification of the human mind with the field which is infinitely unified in itself—that is the formula for world peace.”

"Attend to your own inner health and happiness. Happiness radiates like the fragrance of a flower and draws all good things towards you. Allow your love to nourish yourself as well as others.

"The only sensible defence strategy today is to be so powerful that one has the natural ability to spontaneously stop the birth of an enemy.
'Maharishi's Invincible Theory of Defence', published 1996

"Hard labour to succeed in the world? Hard labour no, no, human constitution, human physiology, human intelligence is made of infinite creative potential of Natural Law and therefore no-one has to work hard for success. "

If we are able to meet these two requirements - regularity in meditation and leading a good life in society, day-to-day a good life - then nothing would be unattainable by us
. from 'Thirty years Around the World'.

"With this (the Global Maharishi Effect) the 2000 year old gospel of suffering is soon coming to an end, and new civilisation, Vedic Civilisation of enlightenment and fulfilment, is dawning."

"Guru Purnima is the day of infinite correlation. It is the day of supreme knowledge; it is the day of Brahman; it is the day of Guru; Guru Purnima, the fullness of Guru Dev; the fullness of the element of Guru, the fullness of pure knowledge.

I think it's a bit boring, but he did great I think!

Namaste Maharishi.

When I was a child my parents were doing TM meditation. As a family we met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and my sisters and I were even in a short promotional film directed by Maharishi about TM. I liked meeting him very much and it made a lasting impression on me.

I remember Osho making fun of Maharishi often when listening to him speak in Poona. Especially about people who use a mantra to meditate. Many meditations do that, Maharishi's included. I've always respected Maharishi Mahesh Yogi over the years. He was a good man.

My question to those of you who read this tribe is, what are your thoughts on meditating using a mantra? I continue to wonder about this, ever since the years I spent with Osho in the 70's - 80's when he said reciting a mantra was not real meditation. My boyfriend, for one, is a daily reminder of this as he practices Hinduism and meditates with the Gayatri mantra every day. I used to debate the issue with him, lately I just accept it. He says he can get into a deep meditative state reciting the mantra.

Osho on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi - transcendental meditation
"This is the reason for Mahesh Yogi’s appeal. It is because if you constantly repeat something, that repetition gives you deep sleep; that is all. So the so-called transcendental meditation is nothing but a psychological tranquilizer. It is nothing – just a tranquilizer. It helps, but it is good for sleep, not for meditation. You can sleep well, a more calm sleep will be there. It is good, but it is not meditation at all. If you repeat a word constantly it creates a certain boredom, and boredom is good for sleep."
