Hey there everyone!
I have a couple of ideas I wanted to run by y'all...
Im thinking about starting a data base of all the poeple that show up to our events and get a mailer going to keep people more directly updated that arent on tribe. I though people that want to could put there email on a sheet by the enterence and and we can start keeping track of our contributers. There are many cross overs at our events but it would be nice to start compiling a list..
Also, how would you feel about combining planing meeting nights for all of our events as well. It seems like there is enough cross over that it might make sence and be easyer on people scheduals not to have to run around as much...
What do you think?
Love and Fire,
Ryano

Re: Idea!
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 7:59 PMI can appreciate where you are coming from, Ryan-O. Getting the word out can be a tedious process and people don't always make it easy to give them the information that you suspect they already want. If somebody says "I don't have e-mail, can you just call me anytime there's something new?" is just going to be out of the loop until a friend who does have access to the internet gets them hip.
Well, a compiled list changes things in a way that some people might not appreciate. I'm delighted to receive mail about burner events, but some people hesitate to be "databased" and it automates the relationships instead of basing them on friendships. Then there's the hassle of the list itself. Who is the custodian, do we give it out to anybody who asks for it. There is a good opt-in networking platform here on Tribe. How do you feel about using it in such a way as to ask for people's tribe names first or ask them to join and then invite them to be our friends here? -

Sat, January 19, 2008 - 12:57 PMI like it jelly.
And your right it does take away a certain personal nature of the family we are creating.
Many of the core uses tribe. We may as well use the vehicle that is already provide to us...
What is a non obtrusive way to get the word out?
Maybe have a small flyer made up that offers a way to get more involved and in the loop and then provide the website address of tribe.
Any more Ideas?
What do you think about the cross over event meetings jelly?
I love the way you make em into a party and would..
Love and Fire everyone!
Ryano.
BTW.. you guys might wanna think about creatively promoting Yuri's night at Tutu.
HE he.. Might be really fun and memorable..

Re: Idea!
Sat, January 19, 2008 - 9:12 PMI dunno, just saying, having a sheet on a table for folks to volunatarily put down their email address, doesn't seem to be crossing a natural boundary to me. If some folks further out in the growing associations and networks of friendships or other kinds of interesting relationships want to receive further information about the projects, rather than having to go looking for it, or having to keep an ear to the ground, so-to-say, then they can choose to give their email addy, or pass. Another vehicle of communication among several. A simple note about what the email list is to be utilized for (to send out information re the projects, nothing more, promise), and that the information will remain exclusively with the projects (i.e. leads), themselves, (and when something is sent out, making sure folks' emails are not listed for other folks to see), would probably seal it for a lot of folks out here and there? Seems to me things could be worked out in order to reach folks who are not, will not be, who are not often on, or who are not yet on the tribe or various burningman.com lists. A lot of folks "out there." -

Re: Idea!
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 6:48 AMYes, you guys think in good directions. I had a great phone conversation with Ryan-O last night. We agreed that I could now pimp him out on myspace... just kidding! :-) We talked about a lot of things that would benefit the community. In the course of our chat we came up with a concept we'll call "cross-pollenize" to help each other promote our respective events. We already do it in many ways and I felt it needed a name, so there you go.
If we are to embrace Tribe with all of it's plusses and minuses including down-time, then we might consider a single moderated "portal" tribe with a simple, catchy name and short URL that links to all the other Burner-related tribes. I nominate Ryan-O to start it, name it, and administrate it to keep the spam out and the content in. This way, anything else sent out can point to this central link as a launch pad for local burner interests. The only other way that would work is a fully dedicated website and that's just a lot of work. Maybe for the future. I suppose we could cough up $8.95 for a catchy URL that points to it so if the Tribe thing ends up not working we can just change the forwarding.
I did have an e-mail sign in sheet at the last Yuri's Night meeting and about half the people signed it and some even offered their physical snail mail addresses (I like to send real thank you cards). Based on Nathan's suggestions, here's some text that might be considered to put at the top of it in the future:
THIS IS: A sign in sheet to keep you informed about Burner community, related events and information only.
THIS IS NOT: An attempt to spam, sell or exploit you.
'Nuff said?
I still need contact information for crew volunteers so maybe a check boxe next to their names letting them opt-in to be on the crew list for the specific event or project. Also, adding a space for them to insert their "Tribe Name" would be helpful.

Re: Idea!
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 7:01 AMOh. Ryan and I also talked about combining planning meetings and I would like to explore other options since it's so hard for an hour just to keep a group of people who care for each other from going into individual conversations. It's a part of who we are as social animals, and I we like the "mixer" idea that comes after the meeting.

This resonates with me too, but reading what you say -- although I happen to moderate the tribe, and its name aside -- the Black Rock Citizens of Reno tribe already comes to mind?

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Idea!
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 7:46 PMNathan is right about already haveing a tribe to take care of that but I do thank you Jelly for the nomination!!
That was a good talk Jelly. We are going to pull it all togather this year...
I also got a chance to go to a burner party in Tahoe last night and did some great networking with the kids up there. Its looking like there is going to be a bunch of em coming down for the Tutu paty!
